Providing true immersion in the context of the landscape, the house revolves seamlessly around indoor and outdoor living.
“The property is centred on the core philosophy of total immersion in the context of where you are – the stunning, natural beauty of the environment.”
Stephen Jolson
A significant re-imagining of an existing farmhouse, Red Hill embodies the essence of a laid-back, regional Australian lifestyle seamlessly merged with timeless European design traditions.
Set within a rolling landscape at the end of a wide curved driveway, the residence is obscured upon arrival by a highly textured perimeter wall that envelops a private courtyard, showcasing a considered transition from public to private.
Inside, the use of pale stone, stainless steel and timber materials creates a sense of continuity and echoes the rugged quality of the Western Australian landscape. This timeless palette further creates a canvas for the client’s sophisticated personal style, while the interplay of daylight and shadow on surfaces adds textural richness and depth.
Forming the heart of the home, the kitchen leverages non-precious stone and robust materials to facilitate the practical demands of family life.
Uniquely designed for rural living, oversized living, dining and kitchen areas alongside large-format, white rendered walls allow for an airy and comfortable family lifestyle. Towards the rear of the house, back-to-back ensuites open to a magnificent view that invites the landscape in. Helping to create a soothing experience of retreat clearly distinct from typical city living, the open-style master bathroom features a bespoke bath elevated on a plinth.
Set amid a mature cherry orchard and vineyard, a layered and accessible rural garden highlights its extraordinary undulating surrounds. Bounded by a textured timber deck, a simple rectangular pool sits among trees strategically planted to serves as a visual guide towards the landscape.
The house’s generosity of scale is designed to match its vast rural setting.
